Mumbai: The release date for the forthcoming film "Shorgul” has been postponed by a week and it will now hit the screens on July 1 instead of June 24.

"We have been forced to postpone the release of our film to July 1. There is a sense of apprehension in the exhibition sector pertaining to the showcasing of the film and a lot of cinema managers have expressed their reservations," Swatantra Vijay Singh, one of the producers of "Shorgul", said in a statement.

Singh also shared: "Despite our repeated reassurances there are certain theatre chains who have maintained their stand of not showcasing the film. As first time producers we find ourselves in a handicapped position with minimal support being garnered from the relevant stakeholders."

The producer says that the film is a "creative piece of expression inspired by humanity".

"It has a strong message for the common man and we hope to receive unrelenting support from the masses to ensure a smooth release on the proposed new date," Singh added.

This is not the first time the date for "Shorgul" has been pushed. The film was earlier supposed to release on June 17, but just to avoid clash with Abhishek Chaubey's "Udta Punjab", the Jimmy Sheirgill and Ashutosh Rana-starrer's release date shifted back to June 24.

A 24 FPS Films Production, the film is based on intolerance and aspires to make audiences contemplate where humanity stands amidst the noise of religious, social, political and economic prejudice.

Co-directed by Jitendra Tiwari and P. Singh, "Shorgul" also features Sanjay Suri, Narendra Jha, Hiten Tejwani, Eijaz Khan, Suha Gezen, Anirudh Dave and Deepraj Rana.

The film touches upon grave subjects that have transpired in the recent past such as Muzaffarnagar, Godhra, Babri Masjid riots apart from making references to bureaucratic misdoings, mind games and controversial master strokes of some high profile dignitaries.
