Race review

Race

English · 2016

Say the name 'Jesse Owens' and people will respond with a vague, 'Was he a sportsman of some sort?' But everyone has heard of Hitler. This gem of a film shows us how a young African American rises above the discrimination he suffers because of his race and becomes the greatest Olympian ever, teaching Hitler a lesson in humility.

Global Baba review

Global Baba

Hindi · 2016

This is not Oh My God, neither is it PK, but this is a clever little gem that may slip through the cracks simply because the film does not have A-listers. Global Baba is a clever satire, written well but it fails to deliver the punch against fake godmen that Oh My God did. Even though directed well, the story feels like it is looping without moving an inch. But the heart is in the right place.

Triple 9 review

Triple 9

English · 2016

Good cops do bad things to save one cop's child, become bad cops. Bad cops now get badder. Street gangs get involved. Everyone shoots at each other and bad cops use this to kill good cops. There's a bigger cop trying to figure out what's wrong with bad cops. Then more shootouts happen. And everyone dies. This movie is that pointless.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

English · 2016

If you wish to make a war movie, then watch this film. It ticks off every cliche there is about soldiers in a war zone. It is a true story and some parts are riveting. But when the cliches begin to work, you wish they were all dead so you could go home.

London Has Fallen review

London Has Fallen

English · 2016

It's a brain-dead endeavor. And except for the car chase where many, many bike-borne terrorists are killed, not even enjoyable. I wish they did not waste our time by making such pointless bullet fests.

Zootopia review

Zootopia

English · 2016

Watch Zootopia for The Godfather scenes. Watch it for the little mice driving little cars. Watch it for 'Pawpsicles'. Watch it for the cool fox and and even cooler bunny. It is not as uplifting as The Good Dinosaur, but it is good, clean fun.

The Revenant review

The Revenant

English · 2016

Fur trapper Hugh Glass battles man, beast and nature and survives. Oh yes, also the demons inside his head. Alexandro Gonzalez Innaritu is back to making you feel awed and yet claustrophobic simultaneously. It is a difficult watch, but only because the images are so powerful that you come away haunted.

Gods of Egypt review

Gods of Egypt

English · 2016

This movie is perhaps the best example of how expensive special effects are pointless when the story is laughable. And an example of why you should be careful of the next Gerard Butler muscle fest.

Bollywood Diaries review

Bollywood Diaries

Hindi · 2016

Three stories of Bollywood crazy people is a good idea. But the film suffers when the three stories are dragged through the mud way after the audience has figured out the end of each story.
