MAYAKANNADI

Cheran plays the role of a hairdresser and Navya Nair is a beautician in a salon. Today’s youth are the centre of the film’s theme. Cheran promises that the film will be highly entertaining and also send out a strong message. Radha Ravi, who has taken a break for a while from acting, dons a role unusual for an actor like him. Actors Sarath Kumar, Arya, Malavika and Ranjitha make cameo appearances. The music is by Ilayaraja and the audio cassette and CD have registered a record sale in the State. Dwarakanath is the cinematographer and veteran producer Panchu Arunachalam’s son, Subbu, produced the film.

UNNALE UNNALE

A new-trend romantic flick. The film has no villain, no separate comedy track, no set songs, no double entendres, and no violence and yet has all the ingredients to be acclaimed as a wholesome family entertainer. Vinay, a Bangalore-based model, makes his debut, while Kajol’s sister Tanisha enters Tamil Cinema through this film. A slick presentation by Jeeva. Harris Jayaraj’s music is already a hit.

The story revolves around boys who play cricket on the roads . The film depicts their romances, competitions, struggles, distress and betrayals. Based on real life incidents, the story is set in Mandaveli-Raja Annamalaipuram in Chennai with pin code No. 600 028. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music for the film which is produced by S.P.Balasubramaniam, Charan and Saravana. This is the first directorial venture of actor Venkat Prabhu, son of music composer and director Gangai Amaran

MADURAI VEERAN

Cast: ‘Jithen’ Ramesh, Saloni, Shakuntala, etc.

Another action film based in Madurai. After remaining off the screen for some time, Ramesh returns to be part of the cast. Saloni is the heroine. Shakuntala makes a comeback as a villain. The popular song in the movie is “Amuthal Akkuthanada” sung by Gana Ulaganathan. Srikanth Deva has composed the music. Syed is the producer.

KAANAL NEER

This is comedian-TV personality Chinni Jayanth’s second directorial venture, his first being “Unakkaga Mattum”. Jayanth is staging a comeback to cinema after a gap of 23 years. He made his debut in “Kai Kodukkum Kai”, and has acted in 308 films. Besides directing , Jayanth has written the story, screenplay and dialogue for “Kaanal Neer”. He introduces a new face, Riteesh, who is the grandson of State Minister Suba Thangavelu, as the hero. Actress Manisha from Mumbai debuts as the heroine. The theme is man can be regarded as God if he owns his mistakes and inflicts punishment on himself. Chinni plays the role of a mentally challenged person. At the end of the film, he appears as a 90-year-old person. Newcomer Sriram has composed the music.

PIRAPPU

“Pirappu” is claimed to be an off-beat film. The theme is - men are born equal and how life changes them as they grow up. Prabha debuts as the hero and Karthika plays opposite him. Bharadwaj is the music director. Balu Mahendra’s son Shanky Mahenda is the cinematographer. Ilangovan is former assistant to directors like Bala and Nasser. He has made “Pirappu” independently

THIRU RANGA

Cast: Santhosh, Ankita, Tejashreee

Direction: Bhargavan

“Thiru Ranga” is the story of two men, one of whom is very rich but has no peace of mind, while the other would resort to any means to make money. The film is all about the events that occur when the two men meet. Nasser plays an important role and Ankita is the heroine. Tejashree is the second heroine. Srikanth Deva scores the music.

ARPUDHA THEEVU

Cast: Prthiviraj, Mallika Kapoor, Malavika

Direction: Vinayan

This fairy tale is a remake of popular Malayalam film “Albhuthadweep”. It has Prithiviraj and Mallika Kapoor in the lead. Actress Malavika has taken on a sizzling item number. The highlight is that more than 100 dwarfs are featured in the film. Vinayan has directed the original Malayalam film itself.

The most awaited Ranjikanth's Sivaji and Kamal Hassan's Dasavatharam are expected to be releasing during the Tamil New Year.
