Kayamkulam Kochunni (MALAYALAM)

Director: Rosshan Andrrews

You get only a slice of the eventful life of a compassionate 'thief', who had petrified the rich in the erstwhile Travancore during the 19th century, in 'Kayamakulam Kochunni.' Writers Bobby and Sanjay have deftly tweaked the tale from 'Aithihyamala' authored by Kottarathil Sankunni for the filmic purpose. Yet, it remains an admiringly created and smartly narrated movie by director Rosshan Andrrews. Read Review
Odiyan (MALAYALAM)
Mohanlal , Manju Warrier , Siddique Prakash Raj
Director: V A Shrikumar Menon
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
The premise wears thin after a point, although Odiyan's fantasy world full of urban legends and razzmatazz are good enough to merit a watch. Keep your expectations in check, though. Read Review
Njan Prakashan (MALAYALAM)
Fahadh Faasil , Nikhila Vimal , Sreenivasan Devika Sanjay
Director: Sathyan Anthikad
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
The unwavering template of Sreenivasan's script once again zeroes in on a lethargic youth, who dreams big sans any sincere efforts. Apparently, Prakashan aka PR Akash is a replica of such characters created by the scenarist earlier. In fact, the reinvention of Sathyan Anthikad as a filmmaker in the narration and subtle treatment makes 'Njan Prakashan' an admirable and feel-good family drama. Read Review
Abrahaminte Santhathikal (MALAYALAM)
Mammootty , Anson Paul , Kaniha Siddique
Director: Shaji Padoor
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
The well-wrought format of 'Abrhaminte Santhathikal' has been exclusively woven for a hero, who finds solutions on the sly. The filmic grandeur is dominant to aid the protagonist than bringing conviction in the treatment. This action thriller has minimal exaggeration but there is clear gap between logic and onscreen events. Read Review
Varathan (MALAYALAM)
Fahadh Faasil , Aishwarya Lekshmi , Sharafudheen Dileesh Pothan
Director: Amal Neerad
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
Varathan dwells on the voyeuristic traits of a society, which pries on women, and the protective role men have to play. While Amal Neerad tells the tale with admirable restraint two thirds of the film's run-time, he dilutes its provocation with his usual pet indulgences. Read Review
Aadhi (MALAYALAM)
Pranav Mohanlal , Lena , Siddique Jagapati Babu
Director: Jeethu Joseph
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
As an action thriller 'Aadhi' pants heavily in its effort to cruise towards the finishing line. The mediocre screenplay is eclipsed by action choreography. Read Review
Sudani From Nigeria (MALAYALAM)
Soubin Shahir , Samuel Abiola Robinson , Aneesh G Menon Mashar Hamsa
Director: Zakariya
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
A delicate tale unexpectedly turns out to be a heart-warming drama that sparkles for good reason. The brimming feel-good emotion that this film exudes is its real essence as it gently reminds us of the power of compassion and harmony. The sublime performances by actors add charm to this smartly executed movie. Read Review
Theevandi (MALAYALAM)
Tovino Thomas , Samyuktha Menon , Saiju Kurup Suraj Venjaramoodu
Director: Fellini T P
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
Tovino Thomas's character in 'Theevandi' is almost an outcast in a society, which condescend his actions. But the movie never does it to us. For those walking in purely for entertainment, there are big laughs to be had in 'Theevandi'. There is also an ensemble cast, who excel in humour. Read Review
Koode (MALAYALAM)
Prithviraj Sukumaran , Nazriya Fahadh , Parvathy Thiruvothu Ranjith
Director: Anjali Menon
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
The ancestral home, which drives the narrative of most of Anjali Menon's films, is nowhere to be seen in Koode. Yet, there is a sense of homecoming and a strong bonding that we all gets to call 'home.' Koode is a heart-warming tale about the importance of relationships in life. Read Review
Aravindante Athidhikal (MALAYALAM)
Vineeth Sreenivasan , Sreenivasan , Nikhila Vimal Shanthi Krishna
Director: M Mohanan
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
Though predictable and trite, this film is elevated by the soul of the emotional bond between a son and a mother. 'Aravindante Athidhikal' has a feel good feel throughout and it starts as light and innocuous fun before heading to the sentimental conflict zone. Read Review
Panchavarnathatha (MALAYALAM)
Kunchacko Boban , Jayaram , Anusree Salim Kumar
Director: Ramesh Pisharody
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
The plot of 'Panchavarnathatha' has an underlying potential of becoming a promising film. But a casual approach bungles the gravity and it ends up as a passable affair. Read Review
Kuttanadan Marpappa (MALAYALAM)
Kunchacko Boban , Aditi Ravi , Surabhi Santhosh Shanthi Krishna
Director: Sreejith Vijayan
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
Visually rich and poor in content, this romantic drama takes us to the familiar landscape of a rustic village in Alappuzha. The tale is badly deprived of focus and freshness. Read Review
Queen (MALAYALAM)
Saniya Iyyappan , Eldho Mathew , Dhruvan Salim Kumar
Director: Dijo Jose Antony
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
'Queen' redefines the grammar of modern campus films in Malayalam. A host of newcomers proudly shoulder themselves this socially-committed campus thriller. Read Review
Njan Marykkutty (MALAYALAM)
Jayasurya , Jewel Mary , Innocent Suraj Venjaramoodu
Director: Renjith shankar
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
Jayasurya is the real elixir of 'Njan Marykutty' and it has been crafted with lots of dramatic emotions. Adding to its predictability, the incidents stapled with the life of a transsexual lack the vital intensity. Read Review
Kammara Sambhavam (MALAYALAM)
Dileep , Namitha Pramod , Bobby Simha Shweta Menon
Director: Rathish Ambat
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
'Kammara Sambhavam' is about how lies can be the strong ingredients for creating history of a person or an event. Seemingly an interesting theme, the prolonged narration is exasperating and the melodramatic situations spoil what could have been an engaging creation. Read Review
Padayottam (MALAYALAM)
Biju Menon , Anu Sithara , Saiju Kurup Dileesh Pothan
Director: Rafeek Ibrahim
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
'Padayottam' is a finely crafted hilarious ride of a group of goons and their follies. It's delightful to watch the evolvement of a comic entertainer from a slender tale with the aid of a refreshing treatment. Read Review
Oru Pazhaya Bomb Kadha (MALAYALAM)
Bibin George , Prayaga Martin , Kalabhavan Shajon Harisree Asokan
Director: Shafi
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
'Oru Pazhaya Bomb Kadha' has an old-fashioned package with insipid situations and lacklustre humour. The combination of mismatch elements fails to give a convincing and engaging tale, making it enjoyable only in parts. Read Review
Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil (MALAYALAM)
Antony Varghese , Vinayakan , Chemban Vinod Jose Sinoj Varghese
Director: Tinu Pappachan
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
An ordinary prison tale is elevated by its stylish treatment to an extent. Yet the absence of a concrete plot remains as a drawback. Read Review
Mohanlal (MALAYALAM)
Manju Warrier , Indrajith Sukumaran , Soubin Shahir Aju Varghese
Director: Sajid Yahiya
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
A mix of crude admiration and senseless tale is sufficient to ward off the logic. Beyond the mere portrayal of a hardcore female fan, this film fails to offer any convincing elements. Read Review
Carbon (MALAYALAM)
Manikandan R. Achari , Fahadh Faasil , Mamta Mohandas Soubin Shahir
Director: Venu
Trailer |
Critic Rating:
User Rating:
Venu strikes gold again with a film that is littered with strong cinematic layers. It may not have the best of drama or entertainment to keep you hooked, but it has a mischievous and teasing soul that will leave a cerebral afterthought. One that is riddled with a maelstrom of deep, intense theories and ambiguities. Read Review
